About

Bakersfield Gives Thanks was born out of a deep desire to give thanks to the LORD for His goodness, blessings and mercies unto us, our families and our beloved city, Bakersfield.

This desire is further reinforced by the biblical account in Luke 17: 11-19, in which Jesus healed ten lepers, but only one came back to give him thanks

.

We are determined to follow the example of the thankful leper.

What is Bakersfield Gives Thanks About?

Biblical Basis – Luke 17: 11-19

  • An annual gathering of Kern County residents specifically Christians focused on giving thanks to the LORD.

  • A gathering whereby we express our thanks to God in words, praise, worship, and dance

  • A church service on behalf of the city – it is not intended to be a concert or a platform to promote a particular form of Christian culture or ethnic celebration

  • We come together to thank God, it is not a recognition or award-giving event.

  • Christians coming together corporately regardless of denomination to express appreciation of God’s goodness to them as a community – it is more or less counting our blessing before God

  • Conceptual elements of the service are:

    • Scripture reading

    • Praise and worship

    • Counting our blessings

    • Exhortation on Thanksgiving

    • Proclamation of God’s blessing

  • Event to be held annually in the month of November, in the spirit of Thanksgiving

There is a lot to be thankful for! Everyone has something that they can express gratitude for
